A great start in Year 1

What a fantastic start we have had in Year 1! The children have settled in beautifully and have already been impressing me with their lovely manners, positive attitudes and excellent behaviour. They have really hit the ground running, and it has been wonderful to see them becoming more confident and independent already.story here.

In English, we have been working hard on creating fantastic sentences. The children have been remembering their capital letters, finger spaces and full stops, and some have even been adding adjectives to make their writing even more interesting.

In Maths, we had a very special visitor – Mrs Poncia’s friend, Dexter! Dexter needed some help with his counting, so Year 1 came to the rescue. The children showed him how to carefully line objects up and make sure they only touched each object once as they counted. Dexter was very impressed with their expert counting skills!

In Art, we have been learning how to use a paintbrush to create different types of brush strokes. The children have really enjoyed experimenting with their brushes and practising their new skills in their sketchbooks.

It has been a brilliant start to the year and I am already so proud of how well Year 1 have settled in. Well done, Year 1!
