Baston C of E Primary School

Governors

Welcome to Baston CE Primary School and to the Governors’ section of the School’s website. As a Church of England school, everything we do is grounded in our Christian values. We believe that the caring and nurturing environment at Baston School encourages the development of an all-round individual, with each child being encouraged to realise their full potential.

Our vision, as a team, is to challenge and support our church school to provide inspirational education to empower everyone to dream, thrive and believe.

As a governing body we take the safeguarding of all our pupils and staff very seriously and, as such, all of our governors have undergone an enhanced DBS check.

We also encompass our responsibilities with regard to community cohesion by working as a cluster with seven local schools to maximise the benefits of shared resources and expertise.

Below you can see who our governors are, and what roles they fulfil.

Following recent legislation, all governing bodies of maintained schools constituted prior to September 2012 had to be reconstituted under the School Governance (Constitution) (England) Regulations 2012 or the School Governance (Federations) (England) Regulations 2012 as appropriate. Government policy is that governing bodies should be no bigger than necessary to secure the range of skills they need.

What is different? Governing bodies are no longer based on the stakeholder group principle where the different categories of governor had to be in proportion to the size of the governing body. Governors should now be appointed or elected on the basis that they have "the skills and experience required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school".

Baston CE Governing Body reconstituted in September 2015. We undertook a skills audit to identify the skills held by governing body members to ensure a good breadth and depth of skills and identify any areas where skills were lacking. Future appointments will be made to fill any gaps in our skills set. We repeat the skills audit each September to ensure that our skills are used effectively.

MEET OUR GOVERNORS

Mrs Georgina Allen (Headteacher)

I began teaching in 2005 after working in industry for organisations including Eastern Energy, BT and local government. Before qualifying as a primary teacher, I also taught English as a foreign language in the UK and abroad. I joined Baston CE Primary School in 2016, became Deputy Headteacher in 2022 and Headteacher in 2025. After attending governor meetings as Deputy Head, I became a full governor on taking up headship. I value the way our governors work with integrity, offering support, challenge and inspiration to ensure we do the very best for the children at Baston.

Mrs Jill GroutagE (co-opted governor) Chair of Governors

I joined the governing body in September 2023. I have lived in Baston for 12 years and I currently have family attending the school. I have a long history in education as a teacher, special needs advisor and head of the Specialist Teacher Service for a Local Authority.  I retired in Dec 2022 which has allowed me to become more active in the local community. I am looking forward to learning more about Baston School and supporting the school in building for the future.

I recently moved to Baston with my young family, and I am looking forward to supporting the school in providing children with an education that allows them to realise their full potential.

Mrs Lucy Tyler (Staff Governor)

I was appointed to the governing body in October 2022. I have been part of Baston CE Primary School since 2014 and am now proud to serve as Deputy Headteacher. Over this time, I have taught across many year groups and developed a deep understanding of the school community.

I am passionate about driving the school forward, particularly in the areas of curriculum development, safeguarding, and providing enriching experiences for all children. With my two daughters also attending Baston, I am fully invested in the school’s ethos and values and am committed to supporting its continued growth as a staff governor.

Rev Canon Carolyn Bailey (Foundation Governor and ex-Officio)

I became Rector of the Ness Group which includes St John’s church in Baston in 2017, it is a privilege to be involved with this lovely school that lives out its vision of preparing the way for our young people every day.

Before going into ministry I was a nurse at Pilgrim, although I have raised a family since then. I do have other roles, Rural Dean of the Elloe Deanery Partnership as well as sitting on the Chapter of Lincoln Cathedral. I care about the school family and while helping the children to feel that St John’s is their church, I also offer pastoral care to the staff, governors and the school families.
