At Baston Primary School, Religious Education (RE) is taught using a Worldview Approach. This means that we help children explore not only religions, but also the wide range of ways people understand and experience the world.

A worldview is simply a person’s way of seeing life. It can be shaped by religion, culture, family background, personal experiences, and individual beliefs. By learning about different worldviews, children begin to understand why people think, live, and believe in different ways.

In RE lessons, children learn about major religions such as Christianity, Islam, and others, alongside non-religious perspectives. However, rather than seeing these as fixed or identical for everyone, we encourage children to recognise that there is diversity within each worldview. For example, not all Christians or all Muslims will think or practise their beliefs in exactly the same way.

We also help children to:

• ask thoughtful questions about belief, meaning, and truth
• explore how beliefs influence people’s daily lives
• understand that people interpret religious texts and teachings in different ways
• reflect on their own ideas, values, and experiences

This approach supports children in developing respect, empathy, and open-mindedness. It encourages them to appreciate the richness and diversity of the world around them, while also building important skills such as critical thinking and discussion.

Through our RE curriculum, we aim to prepare children to live in a diverse society, where understanding and respecting others is essential.
