  • A busy first term!

Over the last few weeks, year 5 have continued to work hard and impress me with their politeness and kindness!  We are continuing our science topic of ‘mixtures and separation’ and the children recently some time outdoors creating a filter using various materials to try to clean some very muddy water.  As you can see from the photos, some of them were very successful!  On the same day, year 5 were lucky enough to participate in a banner-making workshop to recognise Lincolnshire Day.  The children really enjoyed themselves

and the final banners looked absolutely fantastic – they are now brightening up the front of the school hall for everyone to enjoy.  The art work continued in our termly unit on installation art, as children designed and built their own installations using every day items arranged in unusual ways to convey a range of messages.  One group, for example, created a rocket ship as a way of remembering those who died in the Apollo mission and honouring the amazing skill it has taken to launch human beings into space.  These were themes we learned about during the school’s recent SciFest week, which included a session inside an inflatable planetarium and learning the physics of juggling from a professional juggler!  Last but by no means least, I must mention that I was also hugely proud of the way year 5 learned and performed their harvest rap at the Harvest Festival.  They were confident, enthusiastic, hard-working when practising and, hopefully, enjoyable to watch!  Thank you for all your ongoing support with the children’s learning.
