Welcome to Africa Class!
In Africa Class Mrs Porteus is our teacher. She is helped by Mrs Parkin and Mrs Williams.
We have a lovely spacious indoor classroom and a huge outdoor area just for us!
We like to learn indoors and outdoors regardless of the weather!
Our term has already begun and Africa Class are beginning to settle in! If you have any concerns regarding your child please find Mrs Porteus before school (for a quick chat) or at the end of the day if you need more time.
P.E. and Forest School
Just a reminder that P.E. takes place on a Monday and Friday, and Forest School takes place on a Wednesday afternoon regardless of the weather. Please ensure that your child has all their kit in school at the relevant times.
P.E. kit = red polo shirt, navy shorts or jogging bottoms, red hoody and plimsolls/trainers
Forest School = Warm trousers, long sleeved top, waterproof coat, hat, gloves and wellies or an all-in-one.
As the cold weather approaches it would be really helpful if you could encourage your child to put their own coat on and fasten it up. This will save them valuable 'playing time' at break!
Read, Write Inc. (RWI)
These video's may help you to understand how your child learns to blend sounds and read words through Read, Write Inc.(RWI)
Red words will be sent home as part of the termly spellings homework.
The red words are tricky! They are the difficult words that cannot be sounded out but just need to be learned by sight. Repetition by sight is the only way to learn these words.
Weekly News Update!
A few parents have asked about Reading Records and what parents are supposed to write in them so here is a brief explanation.
Please try to hear your child read their school book, at a time that suits you, every day. Once you have listened to your child read please write a short comment in the Reading Record about how they got on. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 I will not be able to look through your Reading Record until the end of term but if you write comments in your book I will reply to them.
Books will be collected in every Friday so that you have a free weekend to enjoy yourselves and will not be handed out in the first or last week of term.
If you have any other questions then please come and find Mrs Porteus after school for an explanation.
Star of the Week!
